FAQ – SurfProgram at KuraSurf

11 surf sessions per week, foto/drone review, theory, feedback, yoga, sauna & ice baths.

Yes - Team 1 is designed for complete beginners or those new to surfing. We start you out on soft tops on safe beach breaks.

Our 7N package includes 11 sessions (2x per day, except 1 session on Wednesday).

We maintain a 2:1 guest-to-guide ratio for maximum progression. We also cycle our GM and surf program manager throughout groups during the week to maintain quality standards.

Yes—yoga, sauna, and ice baths are part of the SurfWeek. See Wellness Program.

Smaller groups, integrated wellness, drone/photo analysis, and a real progression program.

This is the first step in our Structured Surf Program Approach - our surf managers will conduct an introduction presentation of what to expect during the week, how our surf progression program works and what the typical weekly outline will look like, including times for yoga, sauna and ice bath. We’re serious about fun. After our intro presentation, we flow into a sort of Q&A session with our guests to ascertain base level surf experience so that we can properly plan group and board allocation, surf spots for the week and guide assignments.
In order to better understand and best strategize a SurfWeek Program to maximize surfing progression, our certified surf managers will typically ask you the following questions:

  • Surfboards you typically ride
  • How often you surft
  • When you last surfed
  • Where you last surfed
  • What your surf goals are for the week

If you don’t have any experience, fear not! We have a dedicated group for our newbies under the watchful eye of our Team 1 head guide. We also review what we call “The Basics” during the SurfWeek briefing in which we review some basic surf etiquette, some wave anatomy and review basic water safety protocols. Worried about getting the right board? We got you covered. At KuraSurf Lombok, we have over 45 boards in our quiver - we’re sure to find you one that’s just right for your level and needs in the water.

We limit the number of overall guests and also the number of guests in each group. We generally try to stay below 7 guests per group. We typically run our SurfWeeks with 3–5 groups - this will depend on guest surf skill level, conditions for the week & overall number of guests.

Surf Group 1: surfing beginners / first-timers → start on soft tops & white water beach break. We love our beginner group and often see the most progress in this group during their SurfWeek stay at KuraSurf.

Surf Groups 2A-2C: beginner intermediate to advanced intermediate → user friendly open water breaks. These breaks are typically accessible by boat - which is adventurous in and of itself. Group 2A will be on the lower end of the intermediate spectrum, while group 2C will be a bit further along in their experience. Please note that withing group 2A to group 2C, we have a range of skill level and it is not uncommon that guests will progress within the Group 2 ranges during their stay with us.

Surf Group 3: advanced surfers. Under leadership of our team 3 head guide, this group is looking for fast, pitchy waves which have big walls for turns and barreling sections. Again - mostly accessible by boat. Picturesque and very instagrammable. Don’t forget to tag us - we look forward to reposting your surf skills development.

  • Each group is led by a head surf guide plus supporting surf guides
  • Two rotating surf managers for extra oversight, feedback and stoke
  • 2:1 guest-to-guide ratio for personalized surf mentoring - each guide is responsible for two guests while the head guide and rotating presence of the surf managers is there to ensure high quality follow through, feedback and communication in and out of the water
  • Consistency: same guides attached to groups all week (except day off) - you will not need to reiterate the progress you made the previous day since your guides will remain the same.
